The school was earlier located in Athenaeum, Old Town Alexandria and it got its present location in the year 2006. Right from the beginning the school has focused on teaching classical ballet techniques, pre- ballet moves and has laid emphasis on the Nutcracker form. It still continues to excel in the art of training outstanding students, Nutcracker being their best.

In the year 1980 Richmond Ballet got its present Artistic Director. There was no turning back there after. In 1984 it became the First Ballet Company of Virginia and the State Ballet in 1990. Founded in the year 1997 by Mrs. Ana Ines King, Latin Ballet is the area's pre-eminent Hispanic Dance company. In the year 2000 the first studio was centralized at the cultural art center at Glen Allen. Keeping growth of the company in mind, in 2005 a second school was added.
